About the client

The visitor site for Utsukushigahara Onsen in Matsumoto, Nagano. It introduces the hot spring village through its therapeutic waters, historic streets and mountain scenery, and guides visitors to both overnight stays and day trips, with an English version.

DESIGN POINTS

What we focused on

Colours drawn from springs and nature

The palette is built from the hot springs and surrounding nature, giving a calm, grown-up mood that conveys the slow pace of an onsen town.

Motion that catches younger eyes

The brief asked for something both youthful and mature, so animation and illustration appear throughout, keeping the site from feeling dated and catching the eye of younger visitors.

Steam that sets the scene

The main visual uses rising steam so the atmosphere of a hot spring town comes across at a glance.
